Introduction

The performance of any organization is attributed to the management strategy adopted by the company leadership (Cummings, & Worley, 2008, P351). Democratic leadership for instance ensures the full participation of employees in all company matters including decision making process. Such participatory approach to company management is fundamental to the prosperity of the organization. On the other hand, autocratic leadership sidelines other employees in company management but instead bestows upon the managers the authority to make important decisions concerning the operations of the company. Consequently, the employees’ views and opinions are not incorporated in decision making process thereby hampering the development of the company. According to Kaner, Lind & Toldi, (24) an organization would only be considered to have made a wise decision when such an undertaking is all inclusive.

Due to the uncertainties and challenges facing organizations in the modern world, decision making process is vital for the performance as well as survival of the companies. At the outset, all the members of an organization need to be involved in every decision that the company seeks to undertake. Basically, the employees get encouraged when involved in such decision making process and are therefore motivated to offer the best service they can to their company. According to Daft (480) group decision making process is necessary for the success of an organization as the opinions and views of everyone is incorporated in the final word. He reiterates that incorporating everyone’s ideas in the firm’s decision making process is better in offering solutions to the firm’s current or potential problems (Daft, 2009, p480). Besides, every employee would be obliged to support company actions resulting from the decisions they were initially part and parcel of. Daft argues that even though group decisions may be cumbersome and bureaucratic, a consensus will propel the company to its success (Daft, 2009, p480). In a nutshell, the company staff would feel respected, needed and that their views and opinions count hence be loyal to the managers.  Consequently, the company is steered towards success as the implementation of the decisions would be fast and effective. It affirms the concept management is getting work done through others (Kaner, Lind & Toldi, 2007, p24).
